Mediation can be an effective and cost-efficient means for resolving disputes. Mediators are trained to bring opposing parties together, to promote communication and understanding, and to reduce hostilities. Parties are encouraged to resolve their dispute in an informal atmosphere by identifying and articulating their feelings and interests and developing a mutually acceptable agreement. The mediator can also assist in considering future interaction and maintenance of a continuing relationship.
The Idaho Supreme Court maintains 3 rosters of mediators: mediators in general civil cases, mediators for small lawsuit resolutions, and mediators for cases involving custody of minor children. These rosters can be accessed at the Idaho State Judiciary.
